Touch Me

Part of the ongoing Descartes Series: Beyond the Raw Material, the Touch Me bench explores the creative possibilities of reclaimed wood, transforming discarded materials into a unique piece of furniture with its own story and character.

Born from the discomfort of seeing wood go to waste, the series brings together one-of-a-kind furniture and accessories made from reclaimed wood sourced from different places. Rather than concealing the material's irregularities, each piece embraces its natural qualities, textures and history. Working with different types of wood introduces an element of unpredictability into the creative process, allowing unconventional forms and a sense of movement to emerge while finding a balance between considered design and raw expression.

Touch Me takes this exploration further by inviting a direct, tactile experience of the material. Its varied surfaces encourage the hands to follow different textures and discover the character of the wood, turning the simple act of sitting into a moment of pause and connection. As with other pieces in the series, its unconventional form initially challenges our expectations of functionality, inviting us to reconsider what a bench can be before experiencing it as a place to sit or rest.

Each piece is individually conceived and made, preserving the distinctive characteristics and history of the reclaimed wood from which it is created. More than a functional object, Touch Me is an invitation to engage with material, form and the everyday experience of use.
