MA.t ST2 Stool / Side Table

Part of the MATERIA collection, the MA.t ST2 stool / side table draws inspiration from the traditional craft of barrel making and the distinctive atmosphere of an old cooper’s workshop south of Porto.

Located in an area historically known for its woodworking heritage, the workshop provides the starting point for a collection that pays tribute to a craft that is gradually disappearing. Made using materials sourced from local suppliers and traditionally associated with this industry, MATERIA reinterprets this heritage through contemporary forms and a thoughtful exploration of materiality.

Combining French oak and stained cork, the MA.t ST2 brings together natural textures and contrasting materials in a versatile piece that can be used as either a stool or a side table. Finished by hand with a blend of oils and waxes, it celebrates the beauty of honest materials and the enduring value of traditional craftsmanship.

Diogo Amaro is an architect and cabinetmaker based in Porto, Portugal. After several years working in architecture, he spent two years learning from the master cabinetmakers at FRESS, absorbing the knowledge they had to share. This period was deeply enriching, providing an opportunity to experiment and explore the relationship between design and craftsmanship. Currently, Diogo designs and creates bespoke furniture pieces and accepts commissions for custom-made furniture. This year he’ll be presenting a curated selection of his collections, including upcoming new work, showcasing an experimental approach to design and making, developed through his practice at ME Lisbon by Meliá.
